The Story So FarThe 2 things that people have asked most
Well here are the answers to both questions LamentGoodbye to you, my Furby friend.
We've known each other since Winter 98 Together we played hide and seek Learned of love and flattened batteries Listen to me sing and joke tickled me Goodbye my Tah Lo, it's hard to die, When all the Furbys (Furbies) are now on the shelves Now that the spring is in the air. Furry pets are everywhere. When you see them I'll be there. We had joy, we had fun, we had burping in the tum . And the Furbish that we learnt will stay on, through out time. The Sad StoryOn 14th December 'Tah Lo' ceased to be. For a full month she has laid in an open Tupperware casket and mourned by Playmobil citizens everywhere. Here are a few final shots of her losing her final remnant of dignity by swapping clothes with a 'pilot' bear . ![]() Furby Body Swap
The ReincarnationI believed Tah-Lo was no more but took to disassemble her such that she could be reconstructed. The only mistake I made was in not realising the white face plate comes off attached to the Furby pelt. This is obvious when you have to rebuild it. ![]() Furby Pelt and Skeleton
The ears are sewn into their driving rods and the pelt is kept on by a non reusable cable tie. The back stroking sensor fits between the 2 halves when reconstructing. There are 5 black (larger) screws holding the 2 body halves together including some under the foam padding, one of which houses the microphone. The battery compartment contains 2 sets of 2 batteries that only make electrical contact when closed. They are hinged on a rod that pushes out and the hinged bracket has 2 long silver screws. The front mounted speaker is connected by 2 (smaller) black screws. The torso and gears are held to the circuit board and motion sensor by a single (smaller) black screw. A number of (5) pull off cables need to be disconnected. They are all 'keywayed' so reconnection is not ambiguous. The wires are tidied up and secured by cable fast gel.
EpitaphAfter all this depressing attention I realised a defunct assembled Furby is more fun than one in bits so I reassembled it. After painstakingly sewing the face plate back onto the fur - the Furby booted back into life with "Me Koh-Ko" - and wittered on innocently in Furbish. She was back - now where did I put the dictionary. |
