The punk scene of the late seventies produced an interesting paradox. Trying to show that you couldn't play was hard if you were out of tune -which of course you would know if you could play.

Even the architects of politics "The Clash" had pianos in their work - admittedly Strummer/Jones are credited as playing a hand each but it sounded good.

Enter the Korg Guitar Tuner GT-6J. This quite simply listened to your guitar noises either via the built in microphone or via the built in jack socket. You moved the switch for each string and adjusted the tension until the needle read "0".

I got this cheap as everyone bought the next model up which generated tones to tune by. "Being tone deaf they all sound the same to me" - I said clutching my cheap prize.

You were meant to tune up on the 12th fret as well but having to adjust all those screws took longer than arranging the next 3 chords for a new song.
